As part of its initiative to maintain quality infrastructure and enhance transport access, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed road improvement projects in the towns of Barotac Nuevo and Dumangas in the province of Iloilo.

DPWH Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) has widened from two (2) to four (4) lanes a two (2)-kilometer portion of Iloilo East Coast-Capiz Road in Barotac Nuevo.

According to DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno, the road upgrade will help alleviate traffic congestion and ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians traversing the highway.

“With the additional road space improving transportation of goods and services, more opportunities for economic growth and development await the town of Barotac Nuevo, especially the local communities in Barangays Badiang, Serallo, and Tinori-an” said Director Bueno.

Meanwhile, the newly-repaired Maquina Bridge along Balabag-Maquina-Cayos-Patlad Road now ensures safer transportation for communities in Dumangas, Iloilo.

District Engineer Allan Rey R. Pajimna reported to Director Bueno that rehabilitation works include sealing of cracks on deck slab and girders, application of carbon fiber sheet and plate, installation of expansion joint, waterproofing, asphalt overlay, and provision of road safety features.

“These infrastructure upgrades will not only enhance the travel experience of locals and visitors but also contribute to the socio-economic development of Iloilo,” said Director Bueno.

Widening of Iloilo East Coast-Capiz Road and rehabilitation of Maquina Bridge were undertaken in the amount of P44.9 million and P3.92 million, respectively.
