Three (3) road improvement projects completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now benefit local communities in Zamboanga City.
Completed along Pagadian City-Zamboanga City Road is the construction of a 3,234-square meter, 46-linear meter active slope protection system with erosion control mat to protect residents of Barangay Tigbalabag from cascading debris.
DPWH Regional Office 9 Director Cayamombao D. Dia said in her report that this road upgrade will provide protection for motorists and pedestrians traversing the landslide-prone area and prevent frequent road closures, especially during rainy season.
The P58.5 million project which involves installation of 422 pieces of 8-meter anchor bolt on an erosion control mat to keep the soil in place was implemented by DPWH Zamboanga City District Engineering Office.
Meanwhile, two (2) newly-concreted farm-to-market roads (FMR) now provide easier access to basic services and establishments, and allow hastened delivery of agricultural goods to nearby markets.
“The 500-lineal meter FMR in Barangay Bolong now reduces travel time from 45 minutes to only 20 minutes, while the 572.5-lineal meter FMR in Barangay Sibulao decreases travel time from an hour to only 30 minutes,” said Director Dia.
Unreinforced portland cement concrete paving of the FMRs were undertaken in convergence with the Department of Agriculture, costing a total of P27 million.
