The on-going road improvement works at the Guimaras Central and Circumferential Roads by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will soon ensure faster and more convenient travel around the towns of San Lorenzo and Nueva Valencia, Guimaras Province.
In San Lorenzo, widening of the 1-kilometer San Miguel-Constancia-Cabano-Igcawayan Road along Guimaras Central Road from two (2) to four (4) lanes progresses at 40 percent.
Other works on the P54-million project include construction of slope protection, installation of metal guard rails, and thermoplastic pavement markings as safety features.
According to DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno, the central road serves as a primary route going to various tourist destinations in the province, hence, this road upgrade is expected to boost local economic and tourism development.
In the town of Nueva Valencia, on-going at 79.8 percent is the widening of a 789-lineal meter portion of Guimaras Circumferential Road to enhance mobility for residents of barangays Lapaz, Salvacion, Cabalagnan and Lucmayan.
Costing P39.6 million, the project also covers the construction of concrete headwall, drainage structures, slope protection, and asphalt overlay.
“When completed, these widened road portions will be able to accommodate larger volumes of traffic, improving transportation for various local communities in the island province,” said Director Bueno.
On the other hand, the concreting of a 759-lineal meter road from Barangay Calaya to Barangay San Antonio was completed in the amount of P13.5 million.
The paved section connecting to Guimaras Circumferential Road will also support local agricultural development by enhancing the delivery of farm products.
The road widening and concreting projects were undertaken by DPWH Guimaras District Engineering Office.
