New Access Road Connecting Naval, Almeria in Biliran, Almost Complete

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is fast-tracking the construction of a new access road that will connect Sitio Magtaran-an, Barangay Talustusan in Naval to Barangay Sampao in the town of Almeria, province of Biliran.

In a report submitted by DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon, DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that the project which is 90 percent completed involves the construction of a road opening and concreting of 0.90-kilometer, two (2)-lane road, stone masonry, drainage structures, and application of pavement markings.

The project, costing ₱45 million, is expected to boost transportation of goods and people, as well as socio-economic activities that will promote livelihood opportunities for locals.

To further improve the economy of Biliran, another ongoing project is the concreting of the National Road Junction (NRJ) Agpangi-Sitio Pongon Road, which is now on its third phase under a multi-year program and has received a total allocation of ₱110 million.

The scope of work for this year’s budget of ₱40 million involves a road opening and paving of 0.69-kilometer section of a two (2)-lane road.

Implemented by DPWH Biliran District Engineering Office, the completion of these projects will soon allow farmers and local business owners to experience higher income returns and increased agricultural production with the faster and safer delivery of goods to market centers.
