
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is undertaking road widening projects along three (3) major roads in Himamaylan City and the towns of Isabela and Hinigaran, Province of Negros Occidental.
DPWH Regional Office VI Director Nerie D. Bueno said that when completed, the upgraded road sections will benefit motorists going to southern Negros Occidental and the neighboring province of Negros Oriental.
Costing P51.5 million, the widening of a 1.57-kilometer portion of Junction Bagonawa-La Castellana-Isabela Road in the town of Isabela progresses at 85.19 percent, while the P43.7 million project along a 1.3-kilometer portion of Bacolod South Road in Himamaylan City attains 87.3 percent completion.
On the other hand, DPWH Negros Occidental 2nd District Engineering Office has finished widening a 321-meter section of Hinigaran-Isabela Road in the town of Hinigaran, amounting to P11 million.
“These road improvements will strengthen transportation access, providing smoother traffic flow for faster movement of people, goods and services,” added Director Bueno.
Other than enhancing mobility in the province, the widened roads are also expected to encourage more tourists to visit various destinations in Negros island which will spur economic and tourism development.
Scope of works on the projects also include provision of safety features such as road metal guard rails, warning signages, solar LED lights, and solar studs.
