The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed the construction of a flood control project along Coronel River to ensure safety of residents in Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija during the rainy season.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino, said that an 846-lineal-meter, six (6)-layer, gabion-type flood wall structure was constructed along the Barangay Bugnan Section of the Coronel River.
The flood wall now provides protection to the lives and properties of locals in times of extreme rains.
Secretary Bonoan added that the structure also prevents damage to farmlands and minimizes loss of crops and livestock, which contributes to food security and stable agricultural economies in the area.
Implemented by the DPWH Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO), the construction of the flood wall was completed in the amount of P88.4 million sourced from the DPWH's Flood Management Program under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
