Damage to Infra Caused by ‘Goring’, Monsoon Rains Estimated at P379.6-M

As of 12:00 noon Friday, September 1, 2023, estimates of damage by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon “Goring” to national roads, bridges, and flood-control structures has reached P379.58 million.

Citing the latest report from Department of Public Works and Highways-Bureau of Maintenance, DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that the partial cost of infrastructure damage comes from P143.28 million damage to roads, P13.44 million to bridges, and P222.85 million to flood control structures in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Regions 1 and 2.

A total of 24 roads have been reopened by the DPWH Quick Response Teams who are still working on clearing a total of six (6) road sections in CAR and Region 1 that remain closed to traffic:

1) Abra-Ilocos Norte Road, San Gregorio, La Paz, Abra due to sinking pavement;
2) Kennon Road, Camp One, T uba, Benguet as precautionary measure;
3) Claveria-Calanasan-Kabugao Road, sections in Brgy. Namaltugan and Brgy. Ninoy, Calanasan, Apayao due to road cut, collapsed pavement;
4) Dantay Sagada Road, Brgy. Antadao, Sagada, Mt. Province due to road cut, collapsed pavement;
5) Ilocos Norte -Apayao Road, K0523+ 150 - K0530+600 (Intermittent Sections) in Ilocos Norte due to landslides; and
6) Roxas Bridge, Vigan-San Vicente Road in Ilocos Sur due to scoured bridge abutment.

Meanwhile, motorists are also advised to avoid two (2) roads that are still one lane passable to only light vehicles in Ilocos Sur and Batangas:

1) Vigan Bridge 1 and 2 along Bantay-Vigan Road in Brgy. 1, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, due to damaged abutment protection and bridge approach; and
2) Nasugbu-Lian-Calatagan Road, Brgy. Putting Kahoy, Lian, Batangas, due to scoured shoulder and roadcut/collapsed pavement.
