7 Roads Remain Closed in CAR, Region 1 as Clearing Ops Continue

As of 10:00 am Saturday, September 2, 2023, four (4) roads in the Cordillera Administrative Region and three (3) roads in Ilocos Region remain impassable due to pavement sinking, roadcut, landslides, and scoured bridge abutment brought by Southwest Monsoon enhanced by tropical cyclone “Goring”.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Bureau of Maintenance said that the DPWH has reopened 26 roads but still working on clearing the following sections that are closed to all types of vehicles:

1) Abra-Ilocos Norte Road, San Gregorio, La Paz, Abra due to sinking pavement
2) Kennon Road, Camp One, T uba, Benguet as precautionary measure
3) Claveria-Calanasan-Kabugao Road, sections in Brgy. Namaltugan and Brgy. Ninoy, Calanasan, Apayao due to road cut, collapsed pavement
4) Dantay Sagada Road, Brgy. Antadao, Sagada, Mt. Province due to road cut, collapsed pavement
5) Ilocos Norte -Apayao Road, Brgy. Maananteng, Solsona, Ilocos Norte due to landslides
6) Roxas Bridge, Vigan-San Vicente Road in Ilocos Sur due to scoured bridge abutment
7) Pangasinan- Nueva Vizcaya Road, Brgy. Malico, San Nicolas, Pangasinan due to soil collapse
Two (2) roads in Ilocos Sur and Batangas also remain one lane passable to only light vehicles:
1) Vigan Bridge 1 and 2 along Bantay-Vigan Road in Brgy. 1, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, due to damaged abutment protection and bridge approach
2) Nasugbu-Lian-Calatagan Road, Brgy. Puting Kahoy, Lian, Batangas, due to scoured shoulder and roadcut/collapsed pavement

Estimated damage to infrastructure in CAR, Regions 1, 2, and 4B is now up at P442.34 million, from P146.28 million road damage, P14.68 million bridge damage, and P281.38 million flood-control structure damage.
