The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed P173-million worth of infrastructure projects that now benefit residents and businesses in the bustling City of Gapan in Nueva Ecija.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing reports from DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino, identified the projects in Gapan City as the flood control structure in Barangay San Vicente and road maintenance works in Barangay Malimba and Barangay Baluarte.
According to Secretary Bonoan, the new flood control structure is a 320-meter long, 8.4-meter high concrete wall supported by a steel sheet pile foundation situated in the Barangay San Vicente section of Peñaranda River.
Constructed in the amount of P96.5 million, the flood wall is expected to reduce flooding in residential and business establishments along the banks of Peñaranda River while also providing support to the nearby bridge structure in the area.
Meanwhile, another completed project is the preventive maintenance on road sections along Daang Maharlika located in Barangays Malimba and Baluarte to enhance the city's road network.
A total of 1.41-kilometer portion of the four (4)-lane major highway had undergone a comprehensive asphalt overlay and installation of thermoplastic pavement markings that were all included in the scope of work of the P76.11-million road project.
According to Secretary Bonoan, the projects are crucial support to the rapid urbanization of Gapan City which is considered as the premiere city in Nueva Ecija's fourth congressional district.
Both projects were implemented by the DPWH Nueva Ecija Second District Engineering Office (DEO) with funding sourced from the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
