The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has paved a total of 570.5-lineal meters of local road covering the Barangays of New Barbacan and Minara in Roxas, Palawan that will ensure the safer and faster delivery of farm products to market centers.
In a report submitted by DPWH Region IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, a total allocation P11.6-million from the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA) was utilized for the construction of a 2-lane paved road connecting agricultural barangays. The project was completed in July 2023.
“Aside from farmers, the project also caters to daily road users, including students and the working population, by providing ease of travel compared to the previously muddy and bumpy road that residents used to endure during the rainy season,” said Director Pacanan.
“Through this project, the residents in the area now have easier access to basic services and at the same time, ambulances and fire trucks can reach secluded areas in times of emergency and disaster,” added Director Pacanan.
Implemented by DPWH Palawan 1st District Engineering Office, the project will further promote the livelihood of residents in the area which revolves mainly around farming cashew, known as the top agricultural commodity in the municipality of Roxas, Palawan. Other farm products sourced from the municipality include rice, coconut, and sweet potato.
