DPWH Completes Flood Mitigation Projects Along Peñaranda River in Nueva Ecija

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed two (2) flood mitigation projects along sections of Peñaranda River in General Tinio and Peñaranda, Nueva Ecija.

DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino, in his reports to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and Undersecretary for Central Luzon Operations Roberto R. Bernardo, said that flood wall structures that will protect communities were completed along the Peñaranda River in Barangay Rio Chico, General Tinio and Barangay Sinasajan, Peñaranda.

The projects have a total length of 994 meters and constructed with a steel sheet pile foundation to manage soil erosion; reduce long-term flooding effects on nearby settlements and agricultural lands; and enhance the river's water management system.

Director Tolentino highlighted the importance of safeguarding lives and properties from inundation as the Peñaranda River, which merges into the Pampanga River and flows to Manila Bay, is prone to overflowing in times of torrential rains during monsoon and typhoon season.

The construction of the P184-million flood walls was implemented by the DPWH Nueva Ecija Second District Engineering Office (DEO) through the agency's Convergence and Special Support Program - Sustainable Infrastructure Projects Alleviating Gaps (SIPAG) funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
