Local communities now benefit from three (3) infrastructure projects delivered by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the province of Iloilo.

DPWH Regional Office 6 OIC-Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel identified the completed projects as the P8.1-million concrete reblocking along Oton-Mambog-Abilay-San Jose Road in the municipality of San Miguel, P6.9-million concrete paving of an access road along Iloilo Floodway in Pavia, and a P4.9-million multi-purpose building in Barangay Lupa, Sta. Barbara.

The newly-repaired 857-lineal meter portion of the Oton-Mambog-Abilay-San Jose Road now serves as a safer and faster route from central to southern Iloilo without passing along the main thoroughfare.

On the other hand, the project in Barangay Balabag, Pavia involves demolition of the existing dilapidated asphalt road and construction of a two (2)-lane portland concrete cement pavement (PCCP) road.

The concrete road now serves as an alternate route from Barangay Balabag going to the town proper, benefitting hundreds of families residing along the floodway.

“DPWH is continuously working on building alternate roads to decongest traffic along main thoroughfares and provide better accessibility between local communities in the province,” said OIC-Director Oropel.

Meanwhile, the multi-purpose building will serve as an all-weather venue for sporting events and various activities in the community, as well as temporary evacuation center during calamities.

The project involves the construction of a 16.5-meter by 30-meter building with 13 sets of reinforced concrete column, 6 spans roof framing, as well as electrical and painting works.

The road improvement and building projects were undertaken by DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office headed by District Engineer Mario G. Soriano and Assistant District Engineer Perla S. Laguardia.
