Residents of Barangay Cabulohan in Cabanglasan, Bukidnon are now protected from the sudden rise of water from the Bobonawan River with the completion of a flood control structure by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
DPWH Region 10 Director Zenaida T. Tan said that the completed structure, funded in the amount of P57.2-million from the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA), involves the construction of a dike reinforced concrete measuring a total length of 340 meters and a height of six (6) meters, and installation of railings on the top deck and stairs.
DPWH is keen to implement projects at low-lying areas that will ensure the safety of locals, including their homes and livelihood, from the destructive effects of flooding.
The completed project along Bobonawan River is one (1) of the 13 flood mitigation structures currently being implemented by DPWH Bukidnon 1st District Engineering Office, headed by District Engineer Flordelis C. Enriquez and Assistant District Engineer Jan Paulo C. Lisondra.
“We hope that this project will no longer cause the displacement of locals in the occurrence of typhoons and heavy rains and help increase economic activities in the area to further promote local industries and tourism in the Province of Bukidnon,” added Director Tan.
