
Motorists are advised that a total of five (5) road sections in Davao Region and CARAGA Region are still closed to heavy vehicles due to safety reasons and on-going structural damage assessment from the series of strong earthquake that recently hit Northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur and other parts of Mindanao.
Citing a report from the DPWH Bureau of Maintenance, DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that warning signs were installed immediately along affected sections to ensure safety of road users.
Based on the 12:00 noon Wednesday, December 6, 2023 report, the following roads are currently passable to light vehicles only:
REGION 11
1) Bolton Bridge 1 along ABS-CBN-Quimpo Blvd. Road in Davao City due to safety reasons and on-going assessment
REGION 13
1) Surigao-Davao Coastal Road
• Benoni Bridge in Carrascal, Surigao del Sur due to 2-inch displacement of span no. 4 girder near pier 3;
• Tago-Gamut Bridge along Surigao-Davao Coastal Road in Tago, Surigao del Sur due to rebar exposure at abutment;
• K1358+0855 to K1358+0880 due to longitudinal crack on pavement;
• K1208+0050 (left side), Carrascal, Surigao del Sur due to 10-cubic meter rock soil collapse;
• K1270+0370 to K1270+0430 (left side), Nurcia, Lanuza, Surigao del Sur due to abnormal gap on expansion joint;
2) Payasan-Los Arcos Road, K1391+0080 to K1391+0107, Bgry. San Pedro, Lianga, Surigao del Sur due to scoured road shoulder and scoured reinforced concrete pipe culvert;
3) Tandag Bridge, K1297+0261, Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, B00695MN due to abnormal gap on expansion joint; and
4) Magsaysay Bridge, B01723MN, Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte due to minor bridge damaged cracking, delamination, and pull-off of restraining cap.
Meanwhile, the DPWH Region 13 reported a total of four (4) unsafe public buildings with minor damage, which include three (3) local government buildings, and one (1) school building.
Partial cost of damage on public infrastructure is reported at P566.36 million, subject to further field validation. It covers P106.58 million damage to roads and bridges, P432.88 million on school buildings, and P26.91 million on national government buildings.
Post-earthquake assessment of other public infrastructure is still ongoing on Department of Education school buildings, as well as other national government agency, and government-owned building.
