The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently finished two (2) flood control structures for the low-lying communities of Orani and Hermosa in the province of Bataan.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Bataan 1st District Engineer Erlindo R. Flores, Jr. said that a 441.50-meter flood control system project was completed in Barangay Tapulao, Orani.

The project is linked to an existing river wall for the protection of residents and farmers living close to the riverbank.

Funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the newly constructed P48.99 million flood control system aims to reduce economic losses caused by flooding in Barangay Tapulao.

Moreover, the DPWH-Bataan 1st District Engineering Office (DEO) has completed a P29.10 million flood mitigation structure along Pulo-Almacen River in Barangay Pulo, Hermosa.

Designed to prevent the river overflow, the flood control structure made of sheet piles and pile caps has a total length of 205 meters and a height of 6.7 meters.

District Engineer Flores also emphasized the significance of the newly-completed project which complements existing flood control structures and the earth dike along Pulo-Almacen River.

“The construction of these flood control facilities is expected to offer additional protection to the agricultural and residential areas of Barangay Tapulao, Orani and Barangay Pulo, Hermosa against water-related hazards,” added District Engineer Flores.
