The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) vowed to continue cooperation, in ensuring the successful implementation of the recently-approved program of President Ferdinand R. Marcos that aims to address the population and development issues in the Philippines.

In a meeting held at the DPWH Head Office in Port Area, Manila, DPWH Undersecretary for Planning and Public-Private Partnership Services Maria Catalina E. Cabral, together with CPD Undersecretary Lisa Grace S. Bersales, led a collaborative discussion on the ongoing efforts of the DPWH, as well CPD-proposed programs and projects, in aid of the Philippine Population and Development Plan of Action (PPD-POA) 2022-2028, which was issued by the Office of the President in November 2023.

During the meeting, Undersecretary Cabral made a quick briefing on the DPWH programs and projects that directly benefit and indirectly contributes to the PPD-POA.

Undersecretary Cabral said that the DPWH continues to improve its Performance Governance System (PGS), which focuses on achieving and sustaining breakthrough policies, programs, and projects with the most inclusive impact to the Filipino people.

She also highlighted that the Department’s process of project identification and prioritization considers population, land area, people’s access to basic social services, job generation, location’s hazard risks, and infrastructure density among others.

CPD Undersecretary Bersales on the other hand highlighted the unwavering support of the DPWH, especially the District Engineering Offices assisting their initiatives on the ground. She also presented some project proposals, including regular collaboration meetings to monitor project status and their impact to the PPD-POA.
