The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently paved a gravel road, benefiting the agricultural community of Barangay Mabatang, Abucay, Bataan.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Bataan 1st District Engineer Erlindo Flores, Jr. highlighted that the paved 1-kilometer farm-to-market road (FMR) now offers a more accessible route for the local fruit farmers, especially when transporting their crops to nearby markets.
The recently paved road is a 5-meter wide, two-lane concrete pavement, with slope protection and grouted riprap that will safeguard the road from erosion and enhance its overall stability and resilience.
“Farm-to-market road projects remain one of our top priorities, recognizing their importance in strengthening communities, stimulating economic growth, and improving quality of life,” said District Engineer Flores.
Implemented under a convergence program between DPWH and the Department of Agriculture (DA), the paved access road in Barangay Mabatang was funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA) in the amount of P13.5 million.
