Agri-communities now benefit from a newly-paved farm-to-market road (FMR) and access road completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the municipalities of Sibunag and Nueva Valencia, Guimaras.
DPWH Guimaras District Engineering Office has finished the concreting of a 690.5-meter FMR connecting Sitio Liningwan and Sitio Camulong in Barangay Maabay, Sibunag, and the 210-meter Sitio Pag-asa Road going to Cabalagnan Fish Landing in Barangay Cabalagnan, Nueva Valencia.
According to DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel, the concrete paved roads now facilitate ease of transport and access to goods and basic services, increasing opportunities for productivity and local economic development.
“One of the major challenges of these areas in Guimaras is the high cost of transport and delivery of goods due to limited access. Thus, improvement of these roads will help facilitate a faster, safer, and more convenient transportation,” added Director Oropel.
Local farmers and fishermen have expressed gratitude for the completed projects as they no longer have to endure muddy and impassable routes while delivering their produce to bigger markets.
Besides concrete paving, other works on the road projects also include safety features such as slope protection and white thermoplastic pavement markings.
The FMR and access road projects were undertaken in the amount of P14.7 million and P8.9 million, respectively.
