Works are underway for the construction of a new four (4)-storey West Visayas State University College of Law (WVSU-COL) building in La Paz, Iloilo City by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

In his report to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel said that the commencement of the building project with a recent groundbreaking ceremony is a significant milestone supporting WVSU, which is known as the first state university to offer law in the region.

The WVSU College of Law Building will be constructed on a 3,456-meter area within the main campus, with approximately 864 square meters per floor, and will include six (6) theater-type airconditioned classrooms, two (2) Moot Court rooms, an auditorium, arbitration/training room, review room, conference room, and faculty room.

“This new building is a modern facility that will provide conducive spaces to meet the demands of the College, while also assisting students in achieving their aspiration of becoming future lawyers at a lower cost,” said Director Oropel.

Other features of the new building include elevators for easy access, with closed-circuit television system (CCTV) and key card access system for security.

In a stride to promote sustainability, the building will also be equipped with solar panels for uninterrupted power supply.

The WVSU-COL building project will be implemented by DPWH Regional Office 6, with an allocation of P400 million under the FY 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
