An additional on-ramp of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway (NAIAx) along Tramo Boulevard in Pasay City is now officially open to cater more motorists coming from the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) going to the country's international gateway.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President Ramon S. Ang inaugurated on Friday, March 1, 2024, the Tramo Ramp designed to connect EDSA-Tramo Boulevard to NAIAx.
Others present during the event were DPWH Undersecretary for Planning and Public-Private Partnership Services (PPPS) Maria Catalina E. Cabral; Skyway O&M Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Rafael C. Yabut; SMC Infrastructure Head of Technical Engineer Norberto E. Conti; SMC Infrastructure Tollway Operations Head Grenalene Argota; DPWH-PPPS OIC-Director Pelita V. Galvez; DPWH-PPPS-Project Implementation and Supervision Division Chief David G. Galang; and, DPWH-PPPS-Project Operation and Maintenance Management Division OIC-Chief Glenn S. Degal.
The new on-ramp structure is an elevated 800-meter, two (2)-lane entry point to NAIAx built to enhance the accessibility of NAIA Terminals 1 and 2 for vehicles coming from EDSA southbound.
DPWH Secretary Bonoan expressed appreciation to SMC President Ang for being passionate in improving the traffic condition in Metro Manila.
According to DPWH Secretary Bonoan, the completion of the additional ramp will contribute to the demand for a more efficient travel at the NAIA-Skyway Loop through the NAIAx as it only took two (2) to three (3) years for the vehicular volume to surpass the capacity of the expressway compared to the initial expectation of 15 years.
Prior the ceremonial ribbon cutting, DPWH Secretary Bonoan and SMC President Ang inspected parts of the NAIAx Tramo Ramp while also discussing the ongoing projects and future plans for the whole 12.65-kilometer stretch of NAIAx as well as other road connectivity projects in Northern Luzon.
SMC President Ang said that they intend to construct another NAIAx off-ramp to improve mobility at NAIA Terminal 3 as well as the possible provision of three (3) more expressway lanes going to and from the same terminal, and the lane expansion of NAIAx from the current five (5) lanes to six (6) lanes.
