Rock Netting Prevents Road Closures along Mountain Road in Consolacion, Cebu

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a slope protection project along a landslide-prone portion of Panoypoy-Panas Road in the municipality of Consolacion, Cebu Province.

In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office 7 Director Ernesto S. Gregorio Jr. said that a rock netting protection was installed with an average height of 14.5 meters from Barangay Panoypoy going to Barangay Panas to ensure safety along the mountain roadside.

“To prevent closures due to falling debris and landslide along the road, the DPWH Cebu 6th District Engineering Office installed a high tensile active wire mesh with erosion control mat, nailed with permanent ground anchor that is cemented,” said Director Gregorio.

“We also completed hydroseeding which is a technique used to promote quick germination of seeds to grow grass on the slope and further inhibit soil erosion,” added Director Gregorio.

Implemented in the amount of P72.3 million, the slope stabilization project along Panoypoy-Panas was completed by the DPWH 6th DEO in December 2023.
