The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has finished access road projects to enhance connectivity of rural communities in the municipalities of Mahayag and San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur.

In her report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and Undersecretary for Mindanao Operations Eugenio R. Pipo, Jr., Region 9 Director Cayamombao D. Dia said that a 933.7-meter concrete paved farm-to-market road (FMR) in Barangay Upper Salug Daku, Mahayag now benefits local farmers with hastened transport of agricultural goods such as rice, coconut, and corn.

Provision of drainage systems and slope protection structures also improve the sustainability of the road, ensuring the safety of motorists passing through the area.

Costing P14.9 million, the FMR project was undertaken by DPWH Zamboanga del Sur 1st District Engineering Office.

Another completed project identified by Director Dia is the construction of a vital access road linking national roads to Indigenous People (IP) communities in San Miguel.

Built in the amount of P10 million, the 457-meter portland cement concrete road now facilitates smoother transportation between Barangay Poblacion and Purok 2 of Barangay Sayog.

The improved accessibility will enhance trade and commerce, opening more development opportunities for IP communities in the area.

Aside from road paving, the project also includes the installation of 30 solar LED streetlights to ensure visibility during nighttime.

DPWH Zamboanga del Sur 2nd District Engineering Office oversaw the implementation of the access road project.
