Two (2) local roads improved by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now boost tourism and agriculture development in the city of Sipalay and the town of Hinobaan, Negros Occidental.
DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel reported the completion of a 1.7-kilometer concrete road leading to tourist destinations in Barangay Nauhang, Sipalay City such as the Sugar and Langub beaches.
“With a more convenient road access going to and from Sipalay, locals now experience better transportation and mobility of goods and services. Visitors will have more opportunities to discover various attractions in the barangay, enhancing tourism development in the city,” said Director Oropel.
Costing P45 million, the project includes provision of grouted riprap and stone masonry with installation of reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings and solar LED lights as safety features.
Meanwhile, a concrete paved 575-lineal meter, 2-lane farm-to-market road (FMR) now benefits rice producers and other crop growers in Barangay Pook, Hinobaan.
Besides ensuring access to basic goods and services, the paved road now enables a quicker, safer, and more cost-efficient delivery of farm produce to bigger markets in the town proper and neighboring cities and municipalities.
“Improvement of this local road is vital as it promotes agricultural productivity which will help stimulate economic development in the area,” said Director Oropel.
Costing P12 million, the FMR project was undertaken by DPWH Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office in convergence with the Department of Agriculture.
