The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed the construction of Maria Joson Teves Diversion Road which has improved mobility in Baras, Catanduanes.

Spanning over 426.5 meters, the four-lane by-pass road with bridge component connects Barangay Osmeña to Barangay Bagong Sirang, diverting traffic from the town proper.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Regional Director Virgilio C. Eduarte said that the diversion road will also serve as a protection to the agricultural communities proximate to the Macutal River, Quezon Section.

The Maria Joson Teves Road project was implemented in three (3) phases — with Phase 1 covering road construction, Phase 2 which includes the construction of the bridge, and the last phase for widening and completion of the diversion road.

Implemented under the Sustainable Infrastructure Projects Alleviating Gaps (SIPAG) program, a total of P120-million was allocated for the construction of Maria Joson Teves Diversion Road.
