Two (2) farm-to-market roads (FMR) improved by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now enable a more efficient transportation for agri-communities in the municipality of Labason, Zamboanga del Norte.

DPWH Regional Office 9 Director Cayamombao D. Dia reported that residents and local farmers now benefit from an 827-lineal meter, 2-lane portland cement concrete pavement road in Barangay Lawagan, and another 2-lane concrete paved road measuring 655 lineal meters in Barangay Kipit.

The FMR projects enhance accessibility and connectivity in the far-flung barangays through reduced travel time by 15 to 20 minutes, allowing for an expanded market reach and spurring more opportunities for local economic growth.

Farming communities in Labason have expressed gratitude for the FMRs as they now experience a safe and hassle-free travel, no longer having to pass through dusty or muddy roads while delivering their produce to bigger markets.

Other construction works undertaken by DPWH Zamboanga del Norte 3rd District Engineering Office include pipe culverts, stone masonry, grouted riprap, and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings as safety features.

Both FMR projects were implemented in the amount of P11.9 million and P9.9 million, respectively.
