The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is fast-tracking the on-going construction of slope protection works along portion of Cagayan River Basin to mitigate soil erosion and flooding threats in Barangay Mozzozzin Sur, Sta. Maria, Isabela.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Regional Office 2 said that the construction progress of the flood mitigation structure along the Cagayan River Basin is now 95 percent and is targeted to be completed in May 2024.
The project involves the construction of 2,982 cubic meters of concrete slope protection, reinforced by 4,309 pieces of hexapods and 667 linear meters of steel sheet piles.

“By bolstering the resilience of riverbanks, the project will mitigate the adverse effects of soil erosion, safeguarding nearby communities, homes, and livelihoods,” said Secretary Bonoan.

Additionally, the project covers stone masonry and a lined canal, complemented by a paved two (2)-lane road, intended to facilitate access to adjacent agricultural lands.

“The improved accessibility will aid the locals especially farmers, enhancing the overall socio-economic landscape of Barangay Mozzozzin Sur,” added Secretary Bonoan.

The slope protection project in Sta. Maria, Isabela is being implemented by the DPWH Regional Office 2 in the amount of P189.8 million, funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
