Residents of Barangay Puerto Princesa South Road Langogan, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan no longer have to rely on makeshift rafts on their way to town with the recent completion of a hanging bridge project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
DPWH Regional Office 4B Director Gerald A. Pacanan, in his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, said that the Langogan Pedestrian Hanging Bridge was implemented to relieve travelling woes of the locals, especially farmers who had to cross a river through smalls wooden rafts just to transport their produce.
With an allocation of P6.5 million, DPWH Palawan 3rd District Engineering Office installed the new 77-meter pedestrian suspension bridge with a width of 1.5 meter, complete with safety railing of 5-foot high cyclone wire, floor planks resting on steel cross-beam channel that is supported by hanger cables, and locked in by U-bolt and bar washers to a parabolic suspension cable.
“This hanging bridge provides a secured, elevated passage for the locals even during rainy and monsoon season when the river’s water levels surge and the currents accelerate,” said Director Pacanan.
Meanwhile, DPWH Palawan 3rd District Engineer Amelia B. Fajardo also reported the newly-completed rehabilitation of a portion of Puerto Princesa South Road in Barangay Tagbarungis, Puerto Princesa City.
The P13.73-million project covers the reconstruction and upgrading along 180-meter segment of the 4-lane Puerto Princesa South Road, which also includes drainage and slope protection structures.
