Residents have been reaping the benefits of a road project the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed in Barangay Sabang in the Municipality of Baler, Aurora.
DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino reported to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and Undersecretary for Operations in Central Luzon Roberto R. Bernardo that the road project involves the concreting of the 471.3-meter portion of Sabang Eco-Tourism Loop.
According to Director Tolentino, the concreting of the Sabang Eco-Tourism Loop portion is a prime example of sustainable tourism development that integrates environmental conservation with community empowerment.
Implemented by the DPWH Aurora District Engineering Office (DEO), the P95.79-million project also includes the construction of flood control structure along the whole stretch of the road portion, 11 single barrel box culverts for drainage, three (3) ramps connected to community alley roads for accessibility, and one (1) ramp used as port for local fisherfolks.
Located along a tributary of the Duongan River, the incorporated flood control structure in the form of slope protection both ensures safety of nearby communities from river water overflow and prevents scouring of the river bank.
Aside from making mobility easier, the concrete road also doubles as a recreational area for bikers, joggers, skaters, and those keen to exercising.
“It's always exciting to see projects that not only benefit the environment but also have the potential to attract visitors and promote economic growth while encouraging healthy activities,” said Director Tolentino.
