The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed widening works along a 2.5-kilometer section of Kabankalan-Bais Road in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
In his report to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy Oropel said that the road improvement in Barangay Tagukon will complete the widening of the whole stretch of the national highway which connects Kabankalan City to the municipality of Mabinay in Negros Oriental.
Kabankalan-Bais Road traverses vast agricultural lands, making farming the main source of income in the city. With the entire stretch of road widened from two (2) lanes to four (4) lanes, more vehicles will be accommodated, easing traffic congestion and improving the accessibility and safety of motorists traveling between the two provinces.
Locals can also expect a more efficient delivery of goods and services to far-flung areas and neighboring towns, opening more opportunities for socio-economic development.
Costing P39.4 million, the project includes the widening of both sides of road, each side measuring 3.65 meters wide, with provision of pipe culverts, grouted riprap, stone masonry, and installation of metal guard rails and steel posts.
The Kabankalan-Bais Road Widening Project was undertaken by DPWH Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office.
