The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has finished the concrete paving of two (2) access roads to improve accessibility in the municipalities of Leganes and Leon, Iloilo.

DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy Oropel identified the completed projects as the construction of a 765-lineal meter, two (2)-lane concrete farm-to-market road (FMR) in Sitio Ubos, Barangay Lapayon, Leganes, and another 2-lane portland concrete cement pavement road with a length of 319.4 lineal meters in Barangay Tagsing, Leon.

With better road condition, far-flung communities no longer have to endure muddy or dusty roads, thereby easing their travel to the town proper as well as other nearby public and private establishments.

The concrete roads also ensure a faster, more cost-efficient, and unhampered transport of agricultural goods from farms and other agricultural areas to markets.

“Situated along vast agricultural lands, Barangays Lapayon and Tagsing are some of the primary local sources of various farm produce, hence, the improvement of these roads also aids in food production and spurs economic opportunities in these areas,” said Director Oropel.

The P11.8 million FMR project in Leganes was undertaken by DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office in convergence with the Department of Agriculture while the road concreting project in Leon was implemented in the amount of P4.9 million.
