Two (2) completed protective structure projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now ensure safety of communities in the towns of Lubao and Floridablanca in Pampanga.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing reports from DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino, identified the Barangays of San Pablo 2nd and Sta. Rita in Lubao, and Barangay San Antonio in Floridablanca as the recipients of slope protection structures implemented by DPWH Pampanga Second District Engineering Office (DEO).
In the town of Lubao, a slope protection measuring 441.36 meters was completed along the section of the Gumain-Porac River in Lubao flowing from Barangay San Pablo 2nd and Barangay Sta. Rita.
The P96.49-million slope protection structure, built using combination of concrete walls, erosion controls, and wire meshes construction methods, is seen to help in managing excess water from the Gumain-Porac River come rainy season.
Meanwhile, a 454.4-meter slope protection was also built along a local creek in Barangay San Antonio, Floridablanca to prevent farmland soil from eroding in times of heavy rain.
By minimizing soil erosion, the P48.99-million slope protection structure in Barangay San Antonio in turn reduces the impact of soil degradation and maintains nearby ecosystems in the area.
Both projects were funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
