The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has installed road safety devices that now aid in preventing accidents along critical road sections in Tabuk City and Rizal Town in Kalinga Province.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Regional Director Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) Director Khaddaffy D. Tanggol and DPWH Lower Kalinga District Engineer Ruby A. Uyam, said that two (2) projects were implemented along Kalinga-Cagayan Road (Calanan-Enrile Section) in Kabuk City with combined cost of P190.9 million.

“The projects facilitated the installation of a total of 14,408 solar-powered road studs along 12.47-kilometer portion of Kalinga-Cagayan Road in the city, including new reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings for center line, edge lines and pedestrian lanes,” said District Engineer Uyam.

“Driving along this section used to be challenging during the night time, when the road is foggy, and during rainy season. These new solar studs provide the needed road lighting for better visibility,” added District Engineer Uyam.

In Rizal town, DPWH installed 7,000 solar road studs and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings along a tertiary road from Liwan West – Babalag-Macutay Section costing P95.5 million. The project now guides motorists traversing the 7.48-kilometer section of the road.
