The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed the improvement of a portion of Manila-Batangas Road in Malvar, Batangas.

In his report to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Region IV-A Director Jovel G. Mendoza said that the improvement of pavement serviceability on 3.06-kilometer sections of the Manila-Batangas Road was conducted through asphalt overlay that can also extend the life cycle of the highway.

The road improvement seeks to mitigate traffic congestion, and enhance the overall travel experience for motorists and commuters traversing between the cities of Sto. Tomas and Lipa.

“By applying a new layer of asphalt, we create a sturdier and smoother road surface capable of withstanding the daily rigors of traffic and adverse weather conditions,” said Director Mendoza.

Other provisions of the asphalt overlay project included a dedicated lane for bicycle users, further promoting sustainable and eco-friendly modes of transportation.

DPWH Batangas 3rd District Engineering Office implemented the road improvement project in the amount of P94 million, funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
