The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed a river control structure along a portion of Bucayao River now protecting communities and agricultural fields in Barangay Managpi, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan said that the project completed in Barangay Managpi involved the construction of a concrete revetment pavement aimed at controlling the water flow in the Bucayao River and lessen the flooding in the surrounding area.

“The newly built protective structure along the Bucayao River ensures safety for residents and alleviates the risks of flash floods and overflowing water causing detrimental damage to the agricultural fields, affecting local farmers in Barangay Managpi," added Director Pacanan.

Before the completion of this project, local communities along the river basin have been experiencing devastating flooding, especially during typhoon season where scouring and erosion of the river bank are one of the primary concerns affecting their livelihoods and agricultural activities.

Completed in April 2024, the flood control project in Barangay Managpi costing P28.83 Million was implemented by the DPWH - Mindoro Oriental District Engineering Office funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2023
