The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has finished widening works on Magbaboy Bridge along Bacolod North Road in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
According to DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy Oropel, Magbaboy Bridge in Barangay Buluangan serves as a vital link between the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, providing access to various establishments, essential services, and neighboring communities.
This bridge improvement not only ensures a safer and more convenient mobility of people, goods, and services, but also supports local economy as it better connects local producers to commercial establishments.
Implemented by DPWH Negros Occidental Sub District Engineering Office, the project involved the construction of two (2) spans of reinforced concrete deck girder on the left side of the 42-meter bridge to expand its capacity from two (2) to four (4) lanes, complementing the 4-lane road.
“With more bridge space, a bigger volume of vehicles can be accommodated, easing traffic congestion along the area and enabling hastened transport of local goods from farms to trade centers,” said Director Oropel.
Costing P32 million, other works on the project include 170 meters of road approach on both abutments to ensure seamless connectivity to and from the widened bridge.
