The newly paved farm-to-market road (FMR) project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now facilitates faster transportation of goods and services, increasing the livelihood opportunities of farmers in Barangay Oaig Daya, Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Regional Office 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan said that the newly completed farm-to-market road is a 2-lane road project measuring 882-meters of portland concrete cement pavement (PCCP), two (2) stations of reinforced concrete pipe culvert (RCPC), and stone masonry.

The completed road project reduces the travel time from Barangay Allangigan 2nd to the city proper from 45 minutes to 20 minutes, enabling locals, motorists, and tourists to access more convenient modes of transportation.

“Prior to the completion of the road, residents and motorists would struggle traversing an unpaved slippery road which turns muddy during heavy rains,” added Regional Director Tan.

Moreover, the road project reduces the dispersion of dust and debris that affects the health conditions of residents and livestock during drier season.

Costing P14.92 million, the farm-to-market road in Barangay Oaig Daya, Candon City, Ilocos Sur is a convergence project of the DPWH with the Department of Agriculture.
