The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed the construction of a concrete paved road, now boosting connectivity and smoother transportation access for tourists and devotees, leading to the spiritual site of Mount Calvary in Barangay Irawan, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

“With a total length of 415 meters and road width of 5 meters, the 2-lane access road is anticipated to enhance the pilgrimage experience of tourists and improve mobility for the local communities in the area,” said DPWH Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan in his update to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan.

Before the completion of this project, residents in Barangay Irawan have been traversing an unpaved road posing significant risk to vehicular accidents and road hazards due to poor road conditions, affecting their livelihood and the pilgrimage activities in Mount Calvary.

Mount Calvary is one of the preserved spiritual sites in Palawan, visited by thousands of devotees, especially during the Lenten Season. Hence, the completed road project not only improves road access to communities in the area but also facilitates better travel experiences for tourists and devotees visiting Mount Calvary.

Implemented by the DPWH - Palawan 3rd District Engineering Office, the road project is determined to augment economic and tourism developments in the region.

Funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2024, the road access project was completed in the amount of P8.02 Million.
