Under the convergence project between the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), a new road connects the once secluded agricultural areas in the town of Balangkayan, Eastern Samar.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon said that a 420-meter farm-to-market road was constructed to benefit coconut farmers and about 120 daily road users by essentially reducing transportation costs and travel time.

Constructed in the amount of ₱20 million, the FMR project which connects Barangay Caisawan and Barangay Magsaysay also involves the construction of a 218-linear meter lined canal and 60 meters of slope protection for an all-weather access.

“This project is a significant step towards improving access of communities to bigger markets and enhancing the daily living conditions of farmers in the area,” said Director Tabacon.

Locals, community leaders, and members of the Coconut Farmers Association of Caisawan have expressed their gratitude to DPWH for the completion of the project, permanently replacing the previous unpaved road which discouraged local farmers from planting crops due to high transportation expenses.
