A new bypass road built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now provides a quicker and more comfortable travel in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.

DPWH Region 9 Director Cayamombao Dia identified the project as the construction of a 1.5-kilometer concrete road with a line ditch spanning 1.9 kilometers in Barangay Maria Cristina.

Besides serving as an alternate route going to and from the said barangay, the new road now reduces travel time by about 15 to 20 minutes, which facilitates better connectivity to neighboring barangays and towns, benefitting about 2,300 residents.

It will also spur local economic development as it hastens transport of agricultural products to the market.

Other construction works on the P47 million project include a 482-square meter slope protection, barrel box culverts, and installation of guardrails as a safety feature.

The bypass road project was implemented by DPWH Zamboanga del Norte 1st District Engineering Office.
