The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has built a flood control structure along Jaro-Aganan River in the municipality of Alimodian, Iloilo.
DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy Oropel mentioned in his report that the 697-meter long, 6-meter high concrete vertical revetment wall on sheet pile foundation will provide protection to the flood-prone barangay Poblacion against raging waters during heavy rains or typhoons.
“The structure diverts, stores, and releases floodwaters in a controlled manner which reduces the amount of river sedimentation and pollution, thereby protecting lives, properties, and resources in the area,” said Director Oropel.
Built in the amount of P96.4 million, the completed flood control will also keep the nearby Aganan Bridge safe from damage caused by water overflow which will prevent frequent road closures and ensure hassle-free travel for motorists passing through.
The revetment wall project was implemented by DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office as an addition to the existing flood control structures built along the Jaro-Aganan River to ensure the protection of communities along the river stretch.
