The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) constructed a flood control structure along the banks of the Mananga River to mitigate flooding in Barangay Bonbon, Cebu City, Cebu.

“Before the project completion, residents in Barangay Bonbon experience neck-deep flooding, landslides, soil erosion, and other disastrous effects during inclement weather," said DPWH Regional Office VII OIC-Director Danilo J. Villa Jr. in his update to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan.

According to DPWH Cebu City District Engineer Ramon P. Devanadera, the flood control project spans 771 meters and includes the construction of Z-Type steel sheet piles with gabions and a spill dike that serves as a resilient barrier against river surges.

With a total allocation of P86.70-million, the completed flood control project intended to safeguard lives and properties was funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2023.
