Flood-Control Measures Prevent River Overflow in San Ildefonso, Bulacan

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the implementation of a flood mitigation project that now protects agricultural lands and communities residing close to Maasin River in Barangay Upig, San Ildefonso, Bulacan.

In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino said that the DPWH Bulacan 3rd District Engineering Office (DEO) was able to complete its P96.50 million flood control project which covers the construction of 300-meter of revetment wall to stabilize and prevent the bank from erosion.

The project also includes desilting operations to increase water capacity of of Maasin River, and aid in the overflow prevention.

“With the completion of the project, we are able to protect the adjacent area from flooding brought by the overflowing of Maasin River, avoiding significant losses in agricultural output, ensuring food security, safety, and well-being of residents,” said DPWH Bulacan 3rd District Engineer Ruben M. Santos.

The flood-control project in Barangay Upig was carried out by the DPWH Bulacan 3rd DEO in the span of nine (9) months from July 2023 to April 2024.
