A flood-control structure is being built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to serve as the first line of defense against harsh and eroding waves for the residents of Barangay Tag-abaca, in the town of Basilisa, Dinagat Islands.

DPWH Regional Office 13 Director Pol M. delos Santos, in a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, said that the concrete slope protection structure with total length of 180.56 meters is implemented by the DPWH Dinagat Islands District Engineering Office (DEO).

“We are currently 88.49 percent complete with this seawall project and it is on track for completion by the end of September this year,” said Director delos Santos.

“When completed, this will also aid the local fisherfolks as it can be used to dock their fishing boats,” added Director delos Santos.

Costing P57.19 million, the seawall project in Barangay Tag-abaca is also designed with a 2-meter width concrete walkway for sight-seeing and other fitness activities for the locals.
