The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) begins construction works of Panay Island’s largest sports complex at Northern Iloilo State University (NISU) in the municipality of Sara, Iloilo province.
According to DPWH Region VI Director Sanny Boy Oropel, construction is now ongoing on a 1,400-square meter multi-purpose building component of the facility.
Built within a 3,064-square meter lot area, the facility will serve as a hub for athletic training and competitions and aims to elevate sports and athletics in Western Visayas.
When completed, the sports complex will also feature a stadium and other necessary amenities such as a 400-meter track field and a 10,346-square meter football field that can cater to a wide range of athletic events.
Aside from providing NISU students and faculty with top-tier amenities, the sports complex also has the potential to attract tourist and sports enthusiasts from across Panay Island.
“This project is a beacon of progress for NISU and other neighboring towns as it will foster a renewed interest in sports among the youth, promote physical education, and serve as a venue for significant regional sporting events,” said Director Oropel.
The sports complex project is being implemented by DPWH Iloilo 3rd District Engineering Office with an initial allocation of P100 million.
