A 574-meter flood control project was completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to provide long-term protection for the local communities living near the Aringay River Basin in Barangay Linapew, Tubao, La Union.

“The flood control structure now prevents the Aringay River from overflowing that causes damage to surrounding agricultural and residential areas along Barangays Lloren, Pideg, and Caoigue in the Town of Aringay,” said DPWH Regional Director Ronnel M. Tan in a report to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan.

Regional Director Tan also stated that local officials and community members expressed their gratitude for the completion of the 4.2-meter high river control project.

Costing P48.99-M, the flood mitigation project was funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act not only to protect the residents from the severe effects of climate change but also to preserve agricultural productivity in the area.

“The completion of the river control project is a testament to the DPWH’s commitment to enhance La Union’s infrastructure resilience against natural disasters—especially in flood-prone communities of Tubao, La Union, added Director Tan.
