The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has successfully completed a two-lane concrete paved access road, which now connects two (2) agricultural barangays in a fourth class municipality of Lanao del Norte.

Built in the Municipality of Baroy, the 900-meter portland concrete cement pavement road facilitates safer access to and from Barangay Cabasagan to Barangay Pendulunan.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Region 10 Director Lilibeth N. Aparecio said that the completion of the project was deemed vital to improve the living conditions of locals who were previously subjected to the muddy and dusty unpaved road due to changes in weather.

“This project facilitates easier access to essential services in the city, transports goods to bigger markets more quickly and safely, and cuts down on travel time, allowing farmers and local business owners to bring home higher income returns,” added Director Aparecio.

Sources of livelihood for the people in the Municipality of Baroy revolve mainly on small businesses and agriculture, with most lands dedicated to farming coconuts and rice.

Aside from the 5-meter wide, 200-millimeter thick road, the ₱19.3-million project also involved the construction of concrete shoulders from beginning to end, as well as lined canals for managing the efficient flow of flood water during heavy rains.
