The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed the widening of a 1.6-kilometer portion of Biliran-Cabucgayan Road to accommodate more motorists and ease traffic congestion in Biliran, Biliran Province.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that the project upgrading from two to four lanes complements widened segments of Biliran Circumferential Road, promoting smoother and faster mobilization of people, goods, and services in the area.
Costing ₱48.96 million, the project also involved the construction of drainage and slope protection to ensure the safety of the travelling public even during rainy days.
Meanwhile, DPWH undertakes the concreting of a 984-meter farm-to-market road costing ₱14.7 million in Barangay Tucdao, Kawayan, Biliran.
“This project aims to support farmers by providing faster and safer access in transporting agricultural products to bigger markets at a lesser cost,” said Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon.
The project, which is 89 percent completed to date, includes the provision of cross drainage, grouted riprap, and stone masonry, and is expected to be completed within the fourth quarter of 2024.
DPWH Biliran District Engineering Office implemented the road widening and concreting projects with allocated funding from the 2024 General Appropriations Act and the Department of Agriculture (DA), respectively.
