The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has successfully completed the construction of a river control structure as a long-term solution to flooding brought by Talavera River in Barangay Pag-asa, Talavera, Nueva Ecija.
Completed is a 266.00-linear meter slope protection project built from steel sheet piles, supported by concrete beam coping and gabions, aimed at preventing river overflow and reducing flood risks during the rainy season, and minimizing water damage to the surrounding areas.
In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan by DPWH Nueva Ecija 1st District Engineer Osias A. Santos, it was stated that the structure is also reinforced with concrete slope protection, which is carefully designed to prevent erosion and ensure long-term durability of the river wall.
“The revetment not only improves the overall safety and resilience of local residents but also act as a strong barrier, protecting nearby agricultural lands from potential flood-related devastation,” District Engineer Santos said.
The completed project in Talavera costing P71.65-million was funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
