Flood Control Project Spurs Economic Activities in Boac, Marinduque

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed the construction of a protective structure in Barangay Balagasan, Boac, Marinduque reducing the risk of destructive flooding, and paving the way for increased economic opportunities in the area.

In a report to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan said that the completion of the project in Barangay Balagasan is a vital measure to mitigate the adverse impact of flooding and water overflow, hampering the daily activities of the residents for many years.

“The protection structure built along a portion of the Boac River in Barangay Balagasan significantly improved the living conditions of the residents, ensuring the safety and security of their properties, livestock, and agricultural lands, enhancing new business opportunities and activities in the municipality of Boac,” added Director Pacanan.

Implemented by DPWH Marinduque District Engineering Office, the flood control project involves the construction of a 514-lineal meter concrete revetment with steel sheet piles fortifying the resiliency of the structure against unfavorable weather conditions.

Completed ahead of schedule, the flood control structure in Barangay Balagasan amounting to P87.81 Million was funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2024.
