The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a fire station and access road which ensures safety and travel convenience of residents in the municipalities of Burauen and Jaro, Leyte province.

Aimed at bolstering the town’s emergency response, a 3-storey building that will serve as a municipal fire station was built at Barangay Maghubas, Burauen town.

In his report to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon said that with a total amount of ₱9.86 million, the project involves the construction of the facility in a 500-square meter lot, equipped with a parking area for a fire truck, rooms for administrative offices, living quarters, rappelling station at the roof deck level, and provision of closed-circuit television (CCTV).

“This building will provide critical services that will help keep Burauen and other neighboring communities safe and secure from fires and other natural and man-made disasters,” said Director Tabacon.

Meanwhile, a ₱9.88-million access road project which aims to facilitate safer travel for students, teachers, and other road users was also completed in Barangay Buenavista, Jaro, Leyte.

The construction of 807 meters portland concrete cement pavement road leading traversing the nearby Buenavista Elementary School has improved the transport services and alleviated travel woes endured in the past by the locals due to bad road condition.

Implemented by the DPWH Leyte 2nd District Engineering Office, the access road and fire station projects were funded under the 2023 and 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), respectively.
